Russian court penalties Wikipedia over army ‘misinformation’.

Feb 28 (Reuters) – The Wikimedia Structure was fined 2 million troubles ($ 27,000) by a Russian court on Tuesday after the authorities charged it of falling short to delete “false information” about the Russian military from Wikipedia, the courts service stated.

Shortly after Russia attacked Ukraine in 2015, Russia introduced sweeping new legislations restricting what individuals can report concerning the problem, fining or blocking internet sites that spread info at odds with the Kremlin’s main narrative.

Wikimedia, which has Wikipedia, was currently fined last year after it stopped working to remove 2 posts pertaining to the war, including one on “evaluations of Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine”.

The most recent penalty was imposed after the authorities charged Wikipedia of “spreading out misinformation” in short articles regarding Russian armed forces systems, Wikimedia Russia stated.

The organisation said it might appeal the ruling yet that it had not yet decided.” Thus far, in the background of courts in Russia, Wikipedia has just had one effective experience of appealing court verdicts,” the head of the foundation’s Russian chapter, Stanislav Kozlovskiy, informed Reuters.
